Why Is My Ps4 Lagging With Good Internet
Some PS4 owners may experience slow wifi issues from time to time. This problem is caused by multiple factors, so you cannot run a universal fix. You will need to narrow down the cause to resolve the problem.
If you are one of the users experiencing problems with your WiFi connection, you may be experiencing any one or more of the following common indicators.
Download speed is greatly reduced.
Online multiplayer games are lagging or button entry is delayed
Remote play is constantly disconnected
Streaming is now lagging or displaying distorted images on the PlayStation
Music or video being streamed keeps pausing or buffering
If you are experiencing any of these issues, please follow this guide to resolve the problem.
Causes of slow wifi on PS4
If you are experiencing slow wifi on PS4, it is important to check many factors that may be causing this problem. Here are some of the common reasons why PS4 wifi connection is slow.
ISP problems.
Not all connectivity issues you may encounter on PS4 are console related. In some cases, the problem may lie outside of your home network, such as problems with your Internet service provider. Try a speed test on your computer or smartphone to check if your router is providing the download and upload speeds you're paying for. If the download or upload speed is much lower than the speed you subscribe to, get help from your ISP.
Random router or PS4 errors.
Electronic devices such as the PS4 or network devices such as routers may generate errors from time to time. These errors may affect the general connection and cause the wifi on the PS4 to disconnect or slow down.
Wifi signal interference.
The Wifi signal can be blocked by many factors. Thick walls, other wireless devices, glass or metal objects are just some of the common causes of signal interference in the home.
Low Bandwidth.
The number of devices being transmitted or downloaded at the same time can overwhelm your wireless network. If this happens, consoles may experience slow wifi, which can affect online play and basic networking tasks such as downloading or streaming.
Older generation PS4s.
The first generation PS4 console uses a slower network card than higher models such as the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro. If your Internet service provider has a fast connection, but the PS4 is older, it may be due to an older card. This is not a design issue, but a hardware limitation. If you want to experience a faster connection, it is recommended that you replace your old console with a new one.
Solve the slow wifi problem on PS4 (PlayStation 4)
You will need to perform a series of troubleshooting steps to resolve the slow wifi issue on your PS4. Please follow the solutions below to resolve your PS4 slow wifi issues.
Run a connection speed test.
You can run a speed test on your PS4 console to see if it has sufficient download and upload speeds. To do so, please follow these steps.
-Open Settings.
-Select Network.
-Select Test Internet Connection.
If the estimated download and upload speeds are still too slow, continue with the other troubleshooting steps below.
Reboot the PS4, modem and/or router.
Turn off the PS4 and disconnect the power cable from the back. Do the same for the modem or router. Make sure to leave both devices completely off for 30 seconds. After that, turn the router back on and wait for all the lights to stabilize completely. Then, turn on the PS4 and connect it to your wifi network again.
Try a wired connection.
If you need a quick connection badly and don't have time to troubleshoot the PS4 wifi, use an Ethernet cable. This is a great way to ignore any wifi issues the PS4 may be experiencing at the moment. If you are playing games online, a wired connection is highly recommended. A wired setup is better than wifi because it eliminates signal interference and reduces the chance of download and upload problems.
Turn off other devices that may be taking up bandwidth.
Other devices (such as smart TVs, phones, computers, laptops, or other gaming consoles) may be consuming wifi bandwidth, which may slow down your PS4 wifi. If you are playing a game, try turning it off to see if the situation improves.
Move the console closer to the router.
The closer the PS4 is to the console, the less likely it is to cut off the wifi signal. If possible, try placing the PS4 console next to your router to see if that solves your slow wifi problem.
Try a 5GHz network.
If your router broadcasts at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, try using the latter on your PS4. 5GHz networks are faster than 2.4 and may only be used by a relatively small number of devices in your home. Check your router's documentation to see if your router has 5GHz capability.
Disable Remote Playback.
Some users can fix the slow wifi problem on PS4 by disabling remote play. This is a wireless connection feature on PS4 that allows you to create a network like wifi to allow other devices to connect. If you have enabled it before, try disabling it and see what happens.
To disable Remote Play, do the following.
-Open Settings.
-Go to "Remote Play Connection Settings".
-Go to "Enable Remote Play" and make sure the box is not checked.
Possible workaround: Manually change the DNS server.
We've tried this solution in our own PS4, but it doesn't do much. However, some PS4 owners in the past have said that doing so solves the problem. Depending on the cause of your problem, this advice may or may not be helpful.
Please follow these steps to manually change the DNS server on your PS4. If this doesn't work at all, make sure to restore the DNS settings to the previous configuration.
Open Settings.
Go to Network Settings.
Select WiFi (or better yet, LAN if you have a wired connection).
Select Customize.
Connect to your home WiFi.
Select Auto Setup until you see the DNS screen.
Select "Manual" and enter 1.1.1.1 as the primary DNS and 1.0.0.1 as the secondary DNS.
